ColombiaStampless MailSpanish Colonial Period1559-1767, a very interesting assembly comprising 24 letters and documents, mostly featuring items originating from the XVIth and XVIIth centuries, including few interesting origins/destinations from/to small localities, remarkable mandatory "su mano" & "chasqui" manuscript notations for the mails, interesting contents as in one letter dated 1560 at Vélez (founded in 1539) "en esta ciudad de velez en este nuevo rreyno de granada de las yndias...por esta presente carta.(...) quatro piezas de esclabos se me fueron y ausentaron estando en la billa de mompós...(sic)". Written documents/letters in the XVIth century are true rarities, with this impressive group containing six items; as a matter of fact, paper was then very scarce and, at the end of that century, only less than 3,000 Spaniards were then established in the "tierra firme" regions of Panama and part of Colombia.
