1845, 90r. black, yellowish paper, fine impression, a magnificent vertical pair from the top of the sheet, types II / I, showing strong colour with 4 mm. sheet margin at top including outer frame line, with mostly excellent margins on the other sides with portion of adjoining adhesive, cleanly tied by ''Correio Geral Da Corte'' cds on reverse of 17 July 1845 entire letter from Rio de Janeiro to Maranhão, with the franking paying the double weight maritime letter rate. Pair lifted for examination and hinged back into place. One of the finest examples of this franking in existence, with only about ten covers recorded bearing two examples of this denomination, this being, as a pair, further enhanced. Cert. Moorhouse.
