The company was founded in 1838, by a group of local wine producers in Cognac under the lead of Louis de Salignac. In 1897, it was taken over by Jean-Gabriel Monnet. Shareholders of the company were paid out in 1906. Jean-Gabriel was succeeded by his son, Jean Monnet (1888-1979), who later would become an influential French political economist and diplomat, and who is regarded by many as a chief architect of European unity and one of the founding fathers of the European Union. Today the Cognac Monnet is owned by Courvoisier/Hennessey. Original signature of Louis de Salignac and transfer to Jean Gabriel Monnet. In 1911 the company was liquidated. Rare. VF.
