Auction: 9037 - The "Pierron" Collection of British Commonwealth Missing Colours
Lot: 1295

Ireland 1987 (17 Nov.) Christmas 21p., an upper right corner vertical pair with traffic lights, both with gold omitted, fine. With normal sheetlet for comparison. Hamilton-Bowen Certificate (2006). Pierron IR1362MCa, £4,500; unlisted in S.G. Photo Estimate £ 2,000-2,500 Note: The missing gold results in the loss of the frame and ´NOLLAIG 1987´ inscription. Prior to the sheetlet of 14 – discovered at the time of issue by a collector but only offered to a dealer in October 2006 – just two used examples were known from kiloware discoveries. Sheetlets were printed six-up so it´s possible other examples exist. Given the passage of time and lack of further reports, it is likely any sheetlets that escaped detection and destruction were split and used as postage. quantity: 14 mint, 2 used
