x Army of India 1799-1826, short hyphen reverse die type, one clasp, Bhurtpoor (Gunner A. Cameron, Arty.), officially impressed, Royal Mint, good very fine Estimate £ 700-900 Gunner Alexander Cameron, born Ross, Scotland, 1801; entered the 1st Company, 2nd Battalion, Bengal Artillery, 1821; arrived in India, July 1822; present at the Siege of Bhurtpoor, 10.12.1825-18.1.1826; invalided to Europe, October 1832; discharged on account of being disabled in the left hand on duty, May 1833, after 11 years and two months with the Colours (Register of Bengal European Soldiers refers). The published Army of India medal roll lists Cameron as also receiving the Military General Service Medal for Martinique; this information would appear to be at odds with Register of Bengal European Soldiers, as Cameron would only have been aged 8 at the time of Martinique.
