Great Britain Postal History Soldiers Letters 1812 (8 Nov.), entire letter from Sergeant J.D. Thomas, Royal Cornwall Regiment of Militia, from Castlebar to Falmouth, signed by the Commanding Officer and showing a superb strike of the very rare Castlebar "PD 1" handstamp in brownish ink, cl bar/113" mileage handstamp and a very good strike of the Dublin "mermaid" "paid" datestamp; some soiling on the reverse and filing creases cross, or are adjacent to, two of the handstamps, nevertheless a rare cover showing one of the two recorded examples of the Castlebar Paid handstamp. A fascinating letter, Sargeant Thomas, the tailor of the Regiment is writing to a Lt. Tressider requesting the sum of £18/12/- due to him for the credit he had given Lt. Tressider´s brother for clothing, if he does not receive payment he threatens to write to the Commander-in-Chief on the subject.. Ex Gerald Sattin. Photo Estimate £ 1,200-1,500
