Great Britain Postal History Soldiers Letters 1813 (27 Sept.), entire "From Cha. Loveday Private West Essex Milit." at Athlone to Chelmsford Essex, signed by the Commanding Officer and showing a fine strike of the very rare Athlone circular framed "PD 1" handstamp, "athlone" handstamp and two framed Paid datestamps, all in red; the letter being a certificate written and signed by the Commanding Officer stating that Private Loveday was sworn as a volunteer to serve in the Western Battalion of the Essex Militia. All the markings crossed by filing creases but nevertheless very rare, being one of only two recorded examples of the Athlone Paid datestamp. B.P.A. certificate (1990). Ex Gerald Sattin.
