Zululand 1888 (11 Sept.) envelope "From No. 263 Pte. T. Clayton C Company 1st. N.S. Regt, Entonjaneni" to England, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and bearing 1888 1d. lilac cancelled with "post office/entonjaneni" c.d.s. and showing, on reverse, Eshowe (17.9), Lower Tugela (17.9), Durban (16.9) and part Maidenhead arrival c.d.s. (16.10); the envelope with a few small faults though a rare cover sent from a member of the detachment of the North Staffordshire Regiment sent to take Chief Dinizulu prisoner. Photo Estimate £ 1,200-1,500 Note: Following the defeat of the Zulus in 1880, Zululand was in an unsettled state. Chief Dinizulu resorted once again to carrying off his neighbour´´s cattle and committing a number of murders. A warrant was issued for his arrest in 1888 and a column, including a detachment of the North Staffordshire Regiment, was sent to take him prisoner and saw action Zululand was proclaimed a British possession on 19th.
