Madras Artillery" to Scotland, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and noted as "Commanding Detachment proceeding to England", marked "1" and showing "paid/devonport/cape packet" c.d.s. (1.4) partially overstruck by London Paid c.d.s. (2.4), the reverse showing St. Helena oval d.s. partially overstruck by Glasgow arrival c.d.s. (2.4); the contents headed "Ship "Windsor Castle" off St. Helena" and written by Gunner Dawson whilst on his journey from Bombay to London; face panel a little soiled though a most unusual cover.
