St. Helena 1877 (12 Sept.) envelope from Tavistock to "Corpl. Jno. R. Barnett, No. 8/7th. late 1/22 Bde., Royal Artillery, St. Helena", franked at 1d. and being in excess of 1/2 ounce showing framed "cannot be sent/exceeds 1/2oz." h.s. with London c.d.s. (13.9) alongside, both in red, returned to the sender who removed an enclosure, reducing it to below the 1/2oz. limit, and "resent 14/9/77" with the instructional handstamp deleted; a couple of small faults though a most unusual item.
