Fort William Essex", redirected to Chelmsford, "Try Fort George" and finally directed to Calcutta, bearing 1d. lilac (defective) cancelled with "145" duplex, Hitchin, Chelmsford, Fort George Station and London (15.12) c.d.s., as the cover was being directed to India and with Holt´s rank not being stated the London Post Office applying "rank not/stated" h.s. in violet alongside framed " returned for 4d/deficient postage" h.s. in red, the additional postage not paid and the letter not forwarded to India; most unusual Estimate £ 120-150
