Coupland 2/22nd Regt." at Hazareebaugh to England, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and bearing 8p. purple cancelled "B84", one day after the Post Office instruction that post offices were to sell 8p. stamps for 9p., the reverse with despatch , Bombay (6.4) and London (4.5) c.d.s. Estimate £ 150-180 Note: The Government of India resolved in Financial Orders No. 1304 of February 1874 to sell the existing stocks of 8p. postage stamps for 9p. each. On 20 March 1874 the Director-General of the Post Office of India instructed the Superintendents of Stamps of three Presidencies to sell 8p. stamps at 9p. each on and after 1 April 1874. This was intended as an interim measure until the new 9p. stamps were issued
