India 1861 (30 July) envelope from Oranmore, Ireland to "No 3206 Private Michael Burke No 7 Company 42 Bengal Highlanders Agra East Indies, bearing G.B. 1d. Stars cancelled with "363" duplex and marked "Deceased" (twice) and "1st. Aug. 61" in red ink, the reverse with boxed "unclaimed/at bombay" d.s., oval-framed "dead letter office/bombay" d.s., Bombay. Agra and London (31.7) d.s., all partially overlapping. Photo Estimate £ 250-300 Note: The 42nd. Highlanders were sent to India for the suppression of the Indian Mutiny, arriving in November 1857. The regiment took part in the battle of Cawnpore. At the end of the mutiny the regiment mover to Agra where disease was rife, one officer and 40 men dying from cholera
