India 1854 (13 Dec.) entire letter "From No. 2680 Pte. Fras. Darnell, H.M. 8th. The King´s Regt." at Agra to England, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and showing oval-framed "india", framed "am" and with "2" charge h.s., the reverse showing Agra, Bombay (19.12) and London (12.2) c.d.s. Estimate £ 150-200 Note: The India Post Office Act XVII of 1 October 1854 , required at its introduction the payment of Indian Inland Postage on all letters from soldiers whether British or Indian. This was corrected on 8 November, from which date European soldiers letters intended for transmission to the U.K. were relieved of this Inland Postage, but could still not be prepaid to the U.K.. As the letters were not pre-paid, on arrival in England the addressee had to pay the soldier´´s privilege postage of 1d. plus a fine of 1d.
