Regt. of Foot" at Cape Town to London, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and showing manuscript "1d" in red, "general post office/Crown/cape town" h.s. and "2" charge h.s., the ship´s Captains gratuity on letters received by private ship). Photo Estimate £ 500-600 Note: 1st. Battalion H.M. 6th. Regiment went out to South Africa in 1846 and in 1848 was quartered in Cape Town where it remained until 1850. The contents refer to the death of the writer´´s brother in India
