India 1832 (6 Sept.) double lettersheet entire letter written by the wife of "John Turner, Corporal HM 13th. L. Dragns" at Bangalore to England, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and showing a fair strike of the "india soldiers/3/london" circular h.s. (In. Sol. 4), noted by the postal clerk as being overweight, marked "Double" and charged "4/4", the civilian rate of postage for a double letter, the reverse with framed "bangalore/post free" h.s., "madras/free/soldiers.letter" c.d.s. in red, Madras oval d.s. and London transit c.d.s. (22.1); some strengthening at folds and sellotape stains at left and right edges though a scarce and unusual double abuse of the privilege. Photo Estimate £ 300-350 Note: The letter was overweight as Mrs. Turner had enclosed letters of testimonial from the officer of his troop and another from the Quarter Master. Also the privilege only entitled the writer to a single sheet in order to obtain the concessionary rate
