India 1830 (12 Sept.) entire letter "From Wm. Scott, Corporal His Majesties 26th. Regt." at Fort St. George, Madras to Scotland, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and showing a largely fine strike of the "india soldier &c./3/plymouth" circular h.s. (In. Sol. 1, seven years earlier than recorded by Robertson) and, on reverse, equally fine "madras/free/soldiers.letter" c.d.s. (SD10); some foxing marks in places, wear at folds and with vertical filing crease through the Plymouth handstamp; the contents with details of his long journey to India and concluding with "When you put your letters into the post office give the letter and one penny along with it into the postmasters and hand it will go free".
