A Great War Group of Three to Guardsman G.J. Webster, Grenadier Guards, Killed in Action, 4.9.1914 1914 Star, with Bar, loose as issued (13689 Pte. G.J. Webster. 2/G.Gds.); British War and Victory Medals (13689 Pte. G.J. Webster. G. Gds.), extremely fine, all in individual card boxes of issue, with Great War Bronze Memorial Plaque, ´George Joseph Webster´, with enclosure slip and in card box of issue Estimate £ 300-350 13689 Guardsman George Joseph Webster, born Homerton, London; served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards on the Western Front from 13.8.1914; he was killed in action 4.9.1914; the 2nd Battalion were in action throughout the retreat from Mons and between the 1st and 5th of September they were detailed to fight in a rearguard action at Villers Cotterets to cover the retreat of 6th Brigade; during this five day period the battalion suffered casualties to 5 officers and 161 other ranks; Webster is buried in Guards Grave, Villers Cotterets Forest, Aisne, France.
