Moderno (late 15th century) Virgin and Child with Two Angels, rectangular bronze plaquette, 61mm. x 52mm., a fine old cast, brown patina, trace of number in ink on reverse The Virgin seated on a raised throne, holds the Child on her left knee. To the left a child angel stands looking up at her, while to the right a second child (another angel or St John?) turns towards the spectator. The plaquette occurs in several forms. In some examples there is an inscription on the base of the throne. In Berlin there is an example in a niche, and a second example in a tabernacle frame with semi-circular top. In a later example two more angels crowning the Virgin are added.
