                        Gian Cristoforo Romano (c.1465-1512)  Isabella d´Este, bronze medal, 38mm., an old cast of the later, corrected, version, brown patina    Obverse: bust of Isabella in profile to the right, her hair loosely tied in plaits and falling from a knot, wearing a necklace, ISABELLA ESTEN MARCH MA    Reverse: A winged female figure, Astrology, standing left, holding a wand, a serpent in front of her and a star by the sign of Sagittarius above, BENE M ERE NTIVM ERGO (For those that do her service)    Isabella d´Este Gonzaga (1474-1539), daughter of Ercole I, Duke of Ferrara, married 1490, Francesco, Marquis of Mantua (died 1519). The reverse legend has been corrected from the incorrect MOERENTIVM. ´Isabella, like most cultivated poeple of her time, dabbled in the so called science.
