London Pharmaceutical Society, Linnaeus Medal, 1830, specimen striking in bronze, bust right, wearing coat and cravat, hair in queue, carolus linnaeus around, w. wyon (mint) below, rev. ob solertiam in studiis botanicis laudatam soc: pharm: lond voluit a d mdcccxxx, Panacea seated, a youth at her knees, points to a tablet inscribed ray linnaeus jussiet sloanie, flowers on the ground and in a vase decorated with Hygaeia feeding the snake to right, a shield and the staff of Aesculapius in exergue, signed w wyon r.a., 46mm., extremely fine, rare Estimate £ 80-100 Panacea and Hygaeia were daughters of Aesculapius. Panacea specialised in the knowledge of drugs and symbolised the belief that ailments could be cured with herbs and earth substances.
