(BHM.1328), extremely fine Estimate £ 80-100 Thomas Telford (1757-1834) built a number of bridges of which the Menai Bridge is the most famous. The Institute of Civil Engineers was established 2 January 1818 and obtained a Charter 3 June 1828. Telford was the first President. The Telford Prize, established 1838, was the highest prize of the Institute and was awarded annually.
