A Great War 1918 French Theatre D.C.M. to Sergeant J.Tate, Machine Gun Corps, Late Royal Warwickshire Regiment, and Entitled to a Military Medal Distinguished Conduct Medal, G.V.R. (19171 Sjt: J. Tate. M.M. 19/M.G.C.), acid cleaned, minor edge bruise, therefore nearly very fine Estimate £ 500-550 D.C.M. London Gazette 30.10.1918 19171 Sjt. J. Tate, M.M., M.G. Corps (Bradford) ´For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during an enemy attack. He kept his gun firing under heavy shell and machine gun fire, inflicting very severe casualties on the advancing enemy, After covering the withdrawal of the infantry he led his team back; he then went back through a hail of bullets to fetch his tripod which had been left behind, and at once got his gun into action again. He displayed fine courage and determination.´ M.M. London Gazette 12.12.1917 19171 L./C. J. Tate, M.G. Corps (Bradford) (France). 19171 Sergeant Jack Tate, D.C.M., M.M., enlisted as 7122 Private, 10th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment; served on the Western Front from 6.3.1915; transferred Machine Gun Corps, attached 19th Battalion, 14.2.1918; saw action at the Battles of Kemmel Ridge and The Aisne, April to June 1918.
