Crease at New Westminster, bearing Vancouver Island 1865 perf. 14 5c. rose (perf. faults across top) cancelled with a good strike of the oval-framed "post office/paid/victoria vancouver island." h.s. in blue. Photo Estimate £ 300-400 Note: Sir Henry Pering Pellew Crease (1823-1905) was born in Cornwall and came to Vancouver in 1858. He was the first practicing barrister of Vancouver Island and British Columbia. He was elected to the Vancouver House of Assembly in 1860-61 and in July 1861 was made Attorney-General for the colony of British Columbia. He was a member of the Legislative Council of British Columbia until 1886 and later was Attorney-General of the United Colony until Confederation and took a prominent part in bringing about Confederation. He was knighted in 1896
