Pair: Sergeant E. Ward, Machine Gun Corps, Late Royal West Kent Regiment British War and Victory Medals (64649 Sjt. E. Ward. M.G.C.), extremely fine, with Great War Bronze Memorial Plaque ´Edward Ward´; Parchment Memorial Scroll; Discharge Certificate, dated 13.10.1916, enclosure document for Plaque; letter of condolence addressed to ´Mrs. H. Ward´; letter from the War Officer to the same recipient concerning back pay of the deceased, dated 1.1.1919 and a newspaper cutting (lot) Estimate £ 140-180 Sergeant Edward Ward, born Bromley, Kent; enlisted (No. 2444) 2/5th Royal West Kent Regiment, 20.9.1914; was an Instructor at Canadian Camp, Bisely before volunteering to go to the front line; transferred 72nd Company Machine Gun Corps, October 1916 and served with the latter during the Great War on the Western Front, where he was wounded 10.9.1917, and died four days later in the Etaples General Hospital, he is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery. His Commanding Officer wrote of him thus, ´He was a splendid fellow, always willing to do whatever duty he was called upon to perform and won our admiration. He is much missed by all the ranks, and I personally miss him as one of my most capable N.C.O.´s.´
