Regt.), reverse engraved in running script, with later ring and straight bar suspension; 2nd Foot Meritorious Service Cross for 10 Years´ Service, X incised on obverse, reverse engraved ´Queen´s Royal For Ten Years´ Meritorious Service to Stephen Preston´, good very fine (2) Estimate £ 800-900 723 Colour Sergeant Stephen Preston, born Lyddiard, Wiltshire, 1809; enlisted in the 2nd Foot, January 1826, aged 17; promoted Corporal, February 1834; Sergeant, January 1837; served in Afghanistan, including the storm and capture of Ghuznee, 23.7.1839; Colour Sergeant, October 1847; discharged, January 1848, after 22 years and 7 days with the colours, of which 18 years and six months were spent in India.
