The 2nd Foot, Queen´s Royal, Meritorious Service Crosses were instituted by Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Willshire on 24.5.1829, and discontinued by Royal Order, 22.3.1837. They were issued in two classes; the First Class in silver with a central silver-gilt Paschal Lamb, the arms of the cross inscribed ´Queen´s Royals Merit X Years´; the Second Class in brass with a central silver Paschal Lamb, and the arms of the cross inscribed ´Queen´s Royals Merit VI Years´. First Class Crosses were issued named on the reverse, and Second Class Crosses were generally issued unnamed, although many were subsequently privately named. All the Crosses, which measure 38mm in width, and come with a ring and straight bar suspension, were manufactured in India, and two distinct types exist, one with the Roman numerals on the obverse raised, and the other with them incised. Other variations of manufacture are known. No riband design is specified, although they were usually worn by means of a dark blue riband.
