Lot: 2071
1864-65 Riester essay collection consisting of 25 die impressions, the Bolivian Consul in France consulted with Martin Riester in La Havre to produce some proposed designs for stamps of Bolivia, two designs were made, one with mountains on the right in the center illustration and the other with mountains on the left, the latter being considerably scarcer with only three examples in this study, the featured item is a composite proof of the two designs in black signed by Riester which may be unique thus, all are die impressions including five larger size cards with the mountains on the right design, two show a portion of the frame of the other design just as the engraving of that design started, one large size proof shows the scarce design from the right of the composite proof and a stamp size proof on card of that design as well, the rest are the mountains on the right designs of various sizes on different colored papers or in various colors, while very attractive and well done these designs were never adopted, very fine and a lovely study of these essays.
