Charles I, Salopia (Shrewsbury) mint, Halfcrown, 13.70g., slender figure of king in ribbed armour, holding sword sloping backwards on horseback left, horse with prominent braided mane and wavy tail, rev. crowned oval garnished shield, with lion´s paws either side, FLORENT CONCORDIA REGNA, annulet/small pellet stops, m.m. lis on obverse only (JGB 1164 (same obv. die); Allen I-45; N.2606; S.3125) a pleasing coin for this issue, struck on a slightly irregular flan, otherwise evenly toned, very fine, very rare Estimate £ 2,000-2,500PROVENANCE: Webb, collection purchased en bloc by Baldwin, prior to 1940 R C Lockett, Glendining, 26 April 1960, lot 4228 D Dupree, Spink Numismatic Circular, March 1991, no.1077 P Hunt, portion of collection purchased privately by Colin Adams, March 2000
