Charles I, Bristol mint, Halfcrown, 13.98g., 1643, king in armour on horseback, wearing curious flat crown, no ground below, large plume behind, rev. declaration RELIG:PROT LE:AN:LI:PA in two lines, three plumes above, date below, double/single pellet stops, m.m. acorn/Br monogram (JGB 973/972 (same obv./rev. dies); Morr. C-10; N.2488; S.3006) some scratches and slightly pitted on both sides, under a dark tone, good fine, scarce Estimate £ 300-400PROVENANCE: S R Naish, Seaby´s Coin & Medal Bulletin, November 1945, no. N198 H M Lingford, collection purchased en bloc by Baldwin, 1951 Morr. 10 is a catch-all classification including dies both with and without stops after PROT and PA in the declaration. The Brooker collection contained die duplicates of this reverse die combined with an Oxford obverse (Morr. B, cf. JGB 972), and with the standard Bristol obverse (Morr. D, cf. JGB 975), but not with this ´flat crown´ type (Morr. C).
