Charles I, group IV, Halfcrowns (2), Tower, type 4, king in armour on foreshortened horse walking left, tail flows between horse´s legs, rev. large oval garnished shield, (i) 15.10g., reads MAG BRI FRA ET HIB, m.m. star (cf. JGB 367; N.2214; S.2779); (ii) 15.18g., m.m. triangle in circle (over star on obverse) (JGB -; N.2214; S.2779) the first weak on horse´s rump, otherwise toned, on an unusually full flan, very fine, the second struck off-centre on a small flan, good fine (2) Estimate £ 150-200PROVENANCE: (i) H Platt Hall, Glendining, 26 July 1950, lot 138, catalogue prepared but the collection purchased en bloc by Spink prior to sale R Carlyon-Britton, third collection purchased by Seaby, 1959 P Hunt, portion of collection purchased privately by Colin Adams, March 2000
