An Infantry Staff Sergeant´s 1889 Pattern Sword A fine example (as Robson Plate 163) with straight 321/2in. (82.5cm) fullered blade by mole, b´ham stamped with date 8/91, wd and other markings, substantial brass "Gothic" guard with cartouche containing partially-incised VR cypher, bearing various issue-stamps behind the quillon, well-made wire-bound fishskin grip and chequered pommel, in its steel scabbard with fixed rings and matching issue-stamps.
