Crime and Punishment Punishment Transportation 1847 envelope, probably from London, to a convict (Thomas Walker) in Van Diemen´s Land, manuscript rate ´5´ and framed Hobart Ship Letter d.s.; fascinating accompanying details – Walker was reported to have absconded in June 1842 by the ´Hobart Gazette´, a few weeks later the same newspaper printed a notice stating he had been granted a ´Certificate of Freedom´; fine. Also 1848 printed ´On Public Service only´ envelope to a convict, Samuel Wade, advising him of his ´Ticket-of-Leave´ (originally sentenced to 7 years transportation in 1824, Wade re-offended in 1843 and served a further 5 year term), self-adhesive tape stains.
