Crime and Punishment Punishment Transportation 1809 entire letter from London to Lymington, re-addressed twice (first to the Isle of Wight and then to Edinburgh), numerous postal markings and rate inscriptions, the letter refers to a man awaiting transportation who is ´most uncomfortably situated on board a Prison Ship at Portsmouth´ - this was subsequently commuted and he served his sentence on the prison hulk ´Laurel´; 1812 entire letter from an official on board ´Indefatigable Transport Convict Ship at Portsmouth´ addressed to London, the letter refers to a prisoner named John Risdell – the ´Indefatigable´ was the first convict transport ship to take prisoners direct to Van Diemen´s Land; attractively written-up with accompanying detail.
