Crime and Punishment Punishment Transportation 1802 entire to London, forwarded to a seaman on board H.M.S. ´Glatton´ at Sheerness - this was the first Royal Naval vessel used to transport convicts and was a direct result of concerns over the unacceptably high death rate on privately contracted ships, however this was the first and last time the ´Glatton´ attempted the journey which lasted over five months and twelve out of the 400 transportees died en-route!; 1831 entire letter from a convict on the aptly-named prison hulk ´Retribution´ moored at Sheerness, originally sentenced to seven years transportation he was pardoned before his despatch; Neatly written-up with accompanying detail Estimate £ 180-220
