Crime and Punishment Crimes Burglary 1784 (1 Feb.) entire letter from Darlington to Haddington, the address panel with red ink manuscript ´P Pd 6´, the reverse with fine light handstruck ´darling/ton´ in black, the letter refers to a man named ´Buchanan´ who was being held as a suspect, however the writer states ´from the description of the person who you have in custody, we are inclined to think he is not the man who was a party in the commission of the Burglary´, and then goes on to describe the prime suspect as being a much younger man, named as ´Patterson´, who was well known in the area where the crime was committed Estimate £ 180-220
