A Coatee of Royal Artillery Officer's Pattern An interesting early 19th Century double-breasted coat, now with scarlet patches on the blue collar and blue slashes on sleeves and skirts, all laced as for an 1831 Pattern coatee, gilt buttons of 1833-38 or 1855-73 pattern (Crown above three Guns, no scallop edge or UBIQUE scroll), scarlet cuffs, piping and skirt turnbacks, the latter bearing embroidered Crown above three Guns within a wreath, the coat lined with beige calico (epaulettes missing, skirt-linings replaced) See illustration of skirts Estimate £ 150-250 The exceptionally narrow shoulders of this coat, and the central back-seam, suggest that it was originally made considerably earlier than 1831. The modest quality of the later additions would indicate that it was not actually worn by an officer in its modified state.
