A Woolwich Gentleman Cadet's Uniform A mid-19th Century double-breasted blue coatee of a cadet of the Royal Military Academy, with scarlet collar, cuffs, edging and skirt-turnbacks, twist loops on collar and blue cuff-slashes, gilt buttons by LANDON & Co, of 1840-55 pattern, holes in shoulders for attachment of scales, an inverted 3-bar chevron of gold lace above right-hand cuff, scarlet cotton lining; together with a pair of deep-blue trousers with 13/4 in. scarlet cloth stripes (2) See illustration Estimate £ 250-350 A handwritten label in the pocket of the coatee states that it may have belonged to Charles Stewart Wilson, who was a GC at the RMA from 1853-55. Light-blue trousers were finally abolished for the Royal Artillery in 1847, having become obsolete for Cavalry and Infantry by 1830. There is no compelling evidence to associate these trousers with the coatee.
