(47860 Sjt: A.J. Barraclough 107/Bde. R.F.A.); 1914 Star, with Bar (Gnr: R.F.A.); British War and first issue Victory Medals (2 Lieut.); 1939-45 War Medal, privately engraved (No. 81463 P/O A.J. Barraclough D.C.M. R.A.F.V.R.), first three medals lacquered, otherwise good very fine or better, with contemporary copy of London Gazette for D.C.M. (5) Estimate £ 700-800 D.C.M. London Gazette 29.11.1915 47860 Sergeant A.J. Barraclough, 107th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, 'For conspicuous gallantry on the 25th September, 1915, and following days, near Vermelles, when he repeatedly mended telephone wires in the open under heavy shell fire, and succeeded in keeping up the communication with three brigades of artillery.' Second Lieutenant A.J. Barraclough, enlisted in the Royal Field Artillery 1907; served with the 12th Battery in India until 1913; promoted Sergeant after the Battle of Loos and served with the 29th Division on the Somme, 1916; given a 'battle-field' Commission for his service on the Somme, and gazetted Second Lieutenant January 1917; resigned commission 1921; re-enlisted Flight-Lieutenant, R.A.F.V.R. at the outbreak of the Second World War, and was invalided, 1941.
