A Very Rare Bhurtpoor C.B. Group of Three to Major-General C. Bisshopp, 14th Foot and A.D.C. to Major-General Gwynne at Corunna a) The Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Companion's (C.B.), Military Division, breast Badge, gold and enamel (Hallmarks for London, 1815), with original wide gold swivel-ring suspension bar and riband buckle b) Military General Service, one clasp, Corunna (C. Bisshopp, Capt. 14th Foot) c) Army of India, one clasp, short-hyphen reverse die-type, Bhurtpoor (Bt. Major C. Bisshopp, 14th Foot), officially impressed, small repair to central device on reverse, some slight chips to enamel, otherwise extremely fine (3) Estimate £ 5,500-6,000 Provenance Harris, Payne and Mackenzie Collections Major-General Cecil Bisshopp, C.B. (1785-1858), appointed Cornet 14th Light Dragoons 1799; Lieutenant 1800; promoted to Captain and transferred to 14th Foot; saw campaign service in Spain 1808-09, including the Battle of Corunna where he was A.D.C. to Major-General Gwynne; served with the Regiment on the Walcheren Expedition, 1809 and later served with them in the South of France, 1814; went to India, 1818; Brevet Major, 1825; for his conduct at the siege and capture of Bhurtpoor, where he led the Left Column of the attack, he received the Brevet of Lieutenant-Colonel (Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 10.2.1826; C.B.); half-pay 1844; Major-General 1851; served as Colonel of the 16th Foot 1857 until his death.
