Ryder VC; a drawing by Commander Ryder of his destroyer; and a letter from him to the current vendor(3) Estimate £ 100-150 Note: On 28th March 1942, Robert Ryder commanded the Naval element in the St Nazaire raid. He led HMS Campbeltown in under intense fire, then supervised the evacuation of men from Campbeltown. He remained in position until certain that his ship could be of no further use before withdrawing, laden with dead and wounded, under heavy fire, and miraculously regained the open sea.
