Mannerist Grotesque. Rectangular plaquette. Cast Bronze, 32 x 38mm. High-relief facing grotesque mask, mouth opened wide. Numeric tag on back. Apparently unique and unpublished. Pierced. Extremely Fine. Ex Domenico Castelleti Collection. Podestà of Varese (1926 to his death 1944). Castelleti ignominiously was connected to the arrest of Calogero Marrone (1889-1945 Dachau), chief of the Varese Civil Register office, who helped Jews and anti-fascists escape from the Nazis.
