The Decursio. Round plaquette, double-sided. Bronze, 62mm. VICTORI.GLORIA.MAIOR.FRIT on scroll around, Two horseman riding right, the front rider with couched spear, leaning tree behind, SC below, rev. Same. Modeled after ancient Roman coins, notably the Decursio Sestertii of Nero. A lovely gilt specimen of this rare plaquette is in Washington's National Gallery, which also has a Charles VIII of France medal with this composition as an alien reverse (vide: Pollard NGA 344).
