Auction: 390 - Renaissance Plaquettes and Commemorative Medals featuring the Neil A. Goodman Collection - e-Auction
Lot: 138

ITALIAN, Florence or Milan first quarter 16th Century
The Trinity. Oval plaquette. Bronze parcel-gilt, 101 x 79mm. Facing bust of Christ holding sacred heart-globus cruciger, Pyramid behind, Dove of the Holy Spirit on clouds before. The delicacy and finesse of this piece bespeaks the work of a goldsmith; while the Dove here is reminiscent of the bronze roundel made by Andrea del Verrocchio in 1477 for the tabernacle at S.M. Novella and now at the Museo Nazionale del Bargello. Pierced (broken) with evidence of having been mounted or framed. An Extremely Fine contemporary cast. Probably Unique and Unpublished. Ex Numismatica Varesi, Sale 67 (Pavia), November 17-18, 2015, lot 953; Nummorum Auctiones 6, Italo Vecchi (London), June 9-10, 1997, lot 2078.
