ATTRIBUTED TO GALEAZZO MONDELLA, called MODERNO (1467-1528)
Arion Rescued by Dolphin. Round plaquette, late 15th-early 16th Century. Bronze, 105mm. At right, playing a viola da gamba, Arion sits atop a dolphin, who charmed by his music, has rescued him from the sea, medieval ship at left; triple band border. Two other recorded specimens in the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., and the British Museum. Pierced. Black patina. A Good Very Fine old cast.
