1940 Collier Trophy Award. Letter from Army Chief of Staff George C. Marshall to Kendall Hoyt of the N.A.A. One page, typed on War Dept. letterhead, Dec. 2, 1941. Marshall thanks the NAA for the invitation to the 1940 Collier Trophy Award ceremonies but is doubtful he will be able to attend. He signs boldly in blue below. George C. Marshall, Army Chief of Staff under FDR, served as Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense under Truman; lauded by Winston Churchill as "the organizer of victory" in WWII; the Marshall Plan was named after him; winner of the 1953 Nobel Peace Prize. Paperclip rust stain top left. Fine.
