1939-1940 Collier Trophy Award. Group of Correspondence. 1) One-page typed letter, June 28, 1940 signed by aviation pioneer, industrialist and engineer Donald W. Douglas thanking Gorman deFreest Larner (WWI flying ace) of the NAA for the invitation to be on the 1940 Collier Committee; 2) One-page typed letter, July 31, 1940 on United Air Lines letterhead signed by W.A. Patterson to the Collier Committee noting UAL will be submitting a presentation as contender for the "1939 Collier"; 3) One-page, typed on Pan American Airways letterhead, August 27, 1940 signed by President Juan T. Trippe thanking Larner of the NAA for his letter advising that Pan American had been nominated for "this year's Collier Trophy"; and 4) Three-page letter signed by Grover Loening typed on his letterhead, August 6, 1940 with a listing of 1939 candidates outstanding achievements and comments.
