1933 Collier Trophy Award. Letters and Claims for Award: 1) One-page, typed on War Dept Office of asst. Secy. Letterhead, Feb. 23, 1933. Asst. Secretary of War F. Trubee Davison tells Senator Bingham that the Committee has unanimously picked Glenn L. Martin as the 1932 awardee for the development of an outstanding bi-engined high-speed, weight-carrying airplane. He signs below along with Members present: Emory S. Land, Harry H. Blee, Earl Findlay, James G. Ray, with 8x10 B&W photo and newsclip of the presentation by FDR; 2) One page, typed on Bureau of Construction and repair, Navy Dept. letterhead, Feb 9, 1934, signed by Rear Admiral E.S. land. Land tells the NAA he will be pleased to serve on the 1934 Committee, with copy of April 9 correspondence from the NAA to Land; 3) Five-page request from United Air Lines to be considered for the 1933 Collier. Typed on UAL letterhead, March 29, 1934, signed by the United Air Lines President - this coming at the end of the 1933/1934 Air Mail Scandal; 4) Three-page typed supplement to a brief proposing Pan American Airways for the 1933 Collier, April 25, 1934, signed by Grover Loening, one of Pan Am's founders.
