Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington (Anglo-Irish statesman and military leader, victor of the Battle of Waterloo) (1769-1852) - signature on bifolium stationery, approx 9"x7.25", dated January 18, 1842, while Wellington was serving as the Leader of the House of Lords, to the Lord Chancellor (at the time, John Copley, 1st Baron Lyndhurst), regarding a Captain Anderson of the Royal Navy, apparently in secretarial hand but signed "Wellington", a fine Wellington letter, sent while the Duke served in the second cabinet of Sir Robert Peel, and shortly before he was re-appointed Commander-in-Chief of the British Army. Accompanied by engraving of Wellington by the firm of Johnson, Wilson & Co. of New York.
