Truman, Harry S. Thirty-third President of the United States, served as vice president under FDR and succeeded him on the latter's death; implemented the Marshall Plan, established the Truman Doctrine and NATO. Document Signed "Harry" as President. 7 x 8 7/8" typed letter on White House stationery, June 2, 1949. Addressing Senator McFarland as "Dear Ernest", Truman notes he is enclosing a copy of a letter he has just written to Carl Hayden (long-serving Senator from Arizona). Accompanied by a copy of the aforementioned letter which concerns the recommendation of Stephen W. Langmade for the Federal Power Commission, a copy of Langmade's resumé, and of Hayden's letter.
